(Alexandria, VA)– September 17, 2021: Yesterday, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia granted a Summary Judgement to the League of Women Voters. This ruling allows the League of Women Voters to be successful in their effort to stop Kansas, Alabama and Georgia from verifying the citizenship of new voting registrants. The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) President J. Christian Adams statement on the ruling is below.

“It is unfortunate that the Justice Department failed to defend a federal agency action. As Judge Leon noted, he had never seen such behavior. As a result, state-specific citizenship instructions will not be allowed to be included in the Kansas, Alabama and Georgia voter registration forms. These instructions helped prevent aliens from voting.  That’s why the League of Women voters opposed the state election integrity provisions because the League doesn’t care about vulnerabilities in our system.

There were serious constitutional questions in this case, namely the power of the federal government to wipe out a state election integrity procedure. For now, the Washington bureaucrats and politicians who are hostile to the Constitutional arrangement where states run their own elections have won.”
