For over 50 years, applicants have been required to provide their Social Security number on voter registration applications.
(Richmond, VA) – December 15, 2021: Today, the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) filed a motion to intervene and a proposed answer in the Democrat Party of Virginia’s lawsuit to block the requirement that Social Security numbers be provided during the voter registration application process. The Democrat Party of Virginia is being represented by Marc Elias.
For 50 years, applicants have been required to provide their Social Security number on their registration application form. Suddenly, now the Democrat Party of Virginia believes this requirement creates a burden on the right to vote.
“This lawsuit is an attack on basic election integrity measures,” said PILF President J. Christian Adams. “These rules exist to protect the right to vote and must always be followed to ensure free and fair elections. The Supreme Court has ruled that states have the power to pass measures to prevent election fraud. This election integrity provision has existed for 50 years.”
