Ranked Choice Voting Converts Elections Into a Consensus-Gathering Exercise

(Alexandria, VA.) – November 1, 2022: Today, the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) released a report explaining what ranked choice voting is and why it is a flawed system.

Ranked choice voting is on the ballot this November in Nevada. Ballot initiative Question 3, or the Top-Five Ranked Choice Voting Initiative, would establish open top-five primaries and ranked-choice voting for general elections. This would apply to congressional, gubernatorial, state executive official, and state legislative elections. If passed, this initiative would transform Nevada’s election process.

“Ranked Choice Voting disenfranchises, confuses, and invites outside meddling into government functions like seen in 2020, said PILF President, J. Christian Adams. “Unfortunately, this flawed system is trying to expand to states like Nevada. The easiest way to crater confidence in American elections is to confuse the voter on the most basic elements of participation.”
