PILF Testifies on Kansas Bill to Set Election Day-Deadlines for Mail Ballots

(Topeka, KS.) – January 22, 2025: Today, Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) President J. Christian Adams submitted testimony before the Kansas Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs regarding S.B. 4, a bill resetting postal return deadlines for Election Day.

In Adams’ written remarks, he sets out four reasons why Kansas lawmakers ought to consider the reform – which is already policy in most states:

“The core elements of S.B. 4 are already required by federal law. The reform would also end reliance on postmarks subject to smearing and notorious U.S. Postal Service delays. Finally, S.B. 4 would shore up public confidence in a system that accounts for all ballots on Election Day.” — PILF President, J. Christian Adams.

The testimony notes years of study by PILF about how states have gone from the slowest to the most trustworthy by exploring amendments to election deadlines and other policies which bolster chances for conclusive Election Day returns. PILF’s 2023 report, Worst to First, dives into Florida’s election overhauls. The Foundation also briefed similar legal matters in successful litigation in Mississippi.
