(Alexandria, VA) April 16, 2026 – Public Interest Legal Foundation President J. Christian Adams issued a statement today, doubting the validity of a Hatch Act complaint lodged against U.S. Election Assistance Commissioner Christy McCormick. The complaint has received regular attention from a partisan election law news website.
“This continues the pattern of weaponizing the bureaucracy against people like Christy McCormick, who want to make our elections more honest. ‘Democracy Docket’ is run by the same people who pushed the fake Russia dossier against Trump. So, nothing new here. Christy McCormick had been on the front lines of improving election administration, literally when she served in dangerous places like Iraq to set up electoral systems there and establish the Rule of Law.”
Adams continues: “McCormick was correct: the ‘left’ has fought against efforts to keep aliens off voter rolls. Free speech is important and those who would weaponize the government against truth tellers have a long, nasty pedigree in world history. That’s who you are, Norm Eisen.”
The December 2025 complaint seeks an investigation by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel over Commissioner McCormick’s alleged violations of the Hatch Act for “making partisan statements” during a policy roundtable. Democracy Defenders Fund Founder Norm Eisen inserts partisan terms into McCormick’s remarks to justify the accusation.

The DDF argues McCormick’s edited remarks were ultimately given to “influence partisan electoral outcomes” in a mayoral race between two lifelong Democrats – on a livestream which has received fewer than 350 views to date.
The DDF’s complaint, including their inserted language, was submitted to federal investigators with the certification that all their “statements made in this complaint are true, complete, and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief. I understand that a false statement or concealment of a material fact is a criminal offense punishable by a fine, imprisonment, or both 18 U.S.C. § 1001.”
