Secretary Schmidt, Where is the Transparency You Called for in 2017?

In 2017, the Pennsylvania State Department admitted that foreign nationals had been registering and voting in the Commonwealth for decades. Al Schmidt, then a Philadelphia City Commissioner, testified that the Department of State’s analysis revealed over 100,000 foreign nationals were registered to vote and demanded transparency. Now, as the Secretary of State, he must meet his own demands.

PILF President, J. Christian Adams, joined WPHT’s Dom Giordano demanding transparency from Secretary Schmidt. Pennsylvanians deserve transparency in their elections.

Instead of transparency, the Commonwealth has fought to seal information relating to this massive error. PILF’s Noel Johnson and Linda Kerns breakdown the history of this ongoing five year fight to obtain records relating to foreign nationals being registered to vote in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
