New PILF Report Reveals Spoiled Ballot Confusion, Observer Imbalance in Michigan’s 2026 Primary

ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 26, 2026) – The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) just released its Serve & Observe: Michigan 2026 Primary report, documenting its observations from polling places across the state of Michigan’s primary election on August 4th, 2026.

PILF deployed trained legal observers to polling sites across Michigan to collect data using the same methods as Department of Justice officials. PILF observers gathered evidence of how the elections were run inside the polling places, which allows for concrete discussion of what can be improved.

The report documents several concerning findings, including:

  • Confusion on the ballot, as voters spoiled ballots when voting for both Democratic and Republican candidates for the same office.
  • An overwhelming left-leaning observer presence.

“The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) is dedicated to the important work of monitoring elections,” said J. Christian Adams, President of the Public Interest Legal Foundation. “PILF observers witnessed ideological imbalance and voter confusion within the polling place, and PILF observers’ reports provide a bird’s eye view of how elections are run in Michigan.”
