ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) today sent a formal letter to Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt outlining alarming findings from a comprehensive review of the state’s voter registration rolls.
The letter highlights more than 19,000 potential interstate duplicate registrations, thousands of same-address duplicates, and hundreds of records containing placeholder and fake dates of birth.
This letter is part of PILF’s ongoing nationwide effort to investigate and expose voter roll inaccuracies. The Foundation has previously released letters and reports highlighting serious registration list issues in New Jersey (read here) and Maine (read here).
The Foundation’s review of Pennsylvania revealed:
- 19,489 potential interstate duplicate registrations, most commonly with Florida (9,967 matches) and New York (5,722 matches).
- 3,170 same-address duplicates, caused by typographical errors or name variations.
- 79 inter-county duplicates within Pennsylvania’s statewide voter database.
- 321 records with placeholder or false birthdates, such as “1800-01-01,” which hinder proper list maintenance.
“The Pennsylvania voter roll is riddled with errors that undermine the integrity of the election process,” said PILF President J. Christian Adams. “Our findings in Pennsylvania are consistent with patterns we have exposed in other states like Maine and New Jersey.
Adams added, “We are urging Secretary Schmidt to take immediate action to clean up these rolls and restore public confidence.”
PILF’s letter to Secretary Schmidt requests a meeting to discuss these findings and to provide detailed data for review. The Foundation is also prepared to share its methodologies and recommendations for achieving more accurate voter registration records.
