ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 26, 2026) – The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) filed a Help America Vote Act complaint in Iowa, urging state officials to address 162 duplicate registrations in the statewide voter database before the Midterm Elections.
PILF found the duplicates by analyzing Iowa’s statewide voter registration list dated September 14, 2026. The review identified 162 cases in which individuals appeared to be registered more than once.
Under the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA), states are required to maintain accurate voter registration records and eliminate duplicate names from their voter rolls, pursuant to 52 U.S.C. § 21083(a)(2)(B).
In its complaint, PILF states that Iowa is failing to meet these federal requirements and calls on state election officials to review the identified records, take corrective action, and implement procedures to prevent future duplicate registrations.
“The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) identified 162 duplicate voter registrations on Iowa’s voter rolls,” said PILF President and General Counsel J. Christian Adams. “Duplicates are easy to fix, so we hope this is resolved quickly. Federal law mandates that the state of Iowa maintains clean voter rolls.”
The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) is the nation’s only public interest law firm dedicated wholly to election integrity. The Foundation exists to assist states and others to aid the cause of election integrity and fight against lawlessness in American elections. Drawing on numerous experts in the field, PILF seeks to protect the right to vote and preserve the Constitutional framework of American elections.
