WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 29, 2026) – The U.S. Supreme Court decision for Watson v. RNC allows for states to accept mail-in ballots to arrive after Election Day. The Court held that federal law requires that ballots can be received after Election Day.
The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) filed an amicus brief in support of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi and RNC’s legal positions, arguing that Election Day-deadlines do not harm military/overseas voters using mail ballots.
“We’re disappointed with Watson. It means now that Election Season is here to stay. Uncertainty in American elections will continue. California-style elections could normalize,” said J. Christian Adams, PILF President and General Counsel.
